- Energy Saving Tips
-
Buy an Induction Hob
- With Induction hobs the elements electronics powers a coil that produces a high frequency electromagnetic field, which penetrates the metal of the ferrous cooking vessel and sets up a circulating electric current which generates the heat. The heat is generated in the pan and is transferred to the food contained within. Induction hobs are 90% efficient (electric is 47%, gas is 40%). Induction hobs are therefore more environmentally friendly, consuming half the electricity of the next most efficient hob. It heats up 1/2 litre of water in less than 1/2 the time of the next fastest hob. The surface temperature reaches 81°C when other electric hobs can reach up to 410°C.

Use correct size pans
- Always use the correct size pan. If you are using a small pan, then use a smaller burner. The use of a pan lid when boiling the contents of the pan will make it come to the boil quicker, thus reducing the amount of electricity/gas used.
- Cleaning Tips

Cleaning a Ceramic Hob/induction Hob
- To maintain the smoothness of the surface avoid using abrasive products or dry/soiled cloths. The surface can be cleaned with any commercial product for glass. It is advisable to immediately wipe all food residuals with a sponge especially if the appliance is still hot. Carefully remove all residuals of food with a high content of sugars like jam to prevent them from crystallizing. For dark streaks or specks use a razor scraper and a proprietary hob cleaner.
Areas of discoloration can be marks from aluminium or copper pans as well as mineral deposits from water or food, which can be removed with a proprietary cleaner.
-
Cleaning Gas Hob
- Burners and grills should always be removed to simplify the cleaning operation. Stainless steel and enamel hob tops should be cleaned with a sponge and soapy water or a non abrasive detergent that is suitable for stainless steel and enamel. Burners need to be cleaned with warm soapy water. After cleaning, dry and replace the burners in their original position. Always ensure that the burner has been reinstalled correctly so that it does not interfere with the ignition.

Cleaning Solid Plate Electric Hob
- Stainless steel and enamel hob tops should be cleaned with a sponge and soapy water or a non abrasive detergent that is suitable for stainless steel and enamel. To clean the solid electric plate - first ensure that the plate is cold, then clean with a damp sponge with a small amount of detergent. Polish the plate with oil at regular intervals of tree months to prevent it from oxidizing.
